A Matter of Exploration

A Matter of Exploration

Can Mobility be Smarter in the Age of AI and Autonomy? Certainly.

For years, we've been struck by the absence of a truly elegant, scalable solution for real-time ridesharing. Whether leaving a conference, arriving at an airport, or heading home from a client visit—countless moments emerge where sharing a ride would be practical, more sustainable, and even socially enriching. And yet, the tools available to facilitate those moments remain woefully outdated. (Yes, Craigslist rideshare still exists, and yes, it's largely unchanged since the early 2000s.)

In an era where we can summon nearly any private experience via our phones—from groceries to entertainment to self-driving cars—why is it still so difficult to simply go the same way as someone else?

This exploration isn't just about efficiency or convenience. It's about rethinking the way we move—more connected, less wasteful, and potentially even more human. With AI transforming logistics and preference-matching at astonishing speed, and climate urgency demanding resource-conscious design, we believe this space deserves a fresh, modern look.

Of course, we’re not the first to explore this idea. But April 2025 is a different time, with new tools, new behaviors, and new expectations—and Matters is looking at it with fresh eyes and renewed intent.

We’re currently conducting early research and customer discovery during San Francisco Climate Week. If you’re interested in helping us shape a smarter future for shared mobility—more connected, efficient, and human—we’d love to hear from you.
